Ashley Dickson
Principal | Patent & Trademark Attorney | Engineer
Ashley is a Registered Patent and Trade Mark Attorney in Australia and Registered Patent Attorney in New Zealand.
His passion is intellectual property and protecting client’s rights to inventions. His belief is that unless you can get up each day and say you enjoy doing what you are doing then you shouldn’t be doing it. After a strong coffee, Ash wakes up each morning with a passion for protecting intellectual property and enjoys coming to work each day, and drinking a lot of coffee!
Ashley has an honours degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Queensland University of Technology and has worked as an Attorney in Australia and Europe. He has advised client’s on protecting their inventions in most technologies with the exception of chemicals and biotechnology. Who really knows what they are talking about anyway! (We have other patent attorneys at Raven IP who look after that for him). Prior to becoming an attorney Ashley was a patent examiner at IP Australia, the Australian Government agency that administers intellectual property (IP) rights and legislation relating to patents, trademarks and designs.
Ashley has particular interests in relation to the protection of inventions for telecommunications, renewable energy, optical and photonic technologies, medical devices and all computer related areas. He also has a particular interest in aerospace inventions having worked with the Australian Space Research Centre in Canberra on a microsatellite for a number of years.
Ashley is a member of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ) and the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA).
In his spare time Ashley enjoys the company and companionship of his dog Rosie, reading any good book by Dick Francis or John Francome, and playing golf. Having travelled and worked overseas he found that you really can’t beat the great weather and being close to family here in Australia.
